As a Business Development Manager within Amazon Web Services, you would be able to shape the future of the database industry and further establish Amazon as the leader in the cloud computing space.
You would use your business savvy to drive revenue, develop sales programs and identify new markets and opportunities. You would work directly with the most interesting and demanding customers to understand their requirements and turn them into reality.
Working hand in hand with our sales teams and solution architects, you would help deliver the finest solutions based on our platform of database services. Your in-depth technical background in databases would help customers understand how to improve their businesses using the right database services. Your excellent verbal and written communication skills will allow you build sales enablement tools, evangelize our platform with our enterprise customers, start-ups and valued partners.
The ideal candidate will possess both a business background that enables them to drive an engagement and interact at the CxO/VP level, as well as a technical background that enables them to easily interact with software developers and architects. He/she should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges, with the ability to build and convey compelling value propositions, and work cross-organizationally to build consensus. A keen sense of ownership, drive, and scrappiness is a must.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Serve as a key member of the Database Services Business Development team focused on helping to drive overall AWS market and technical strategy for data warehousing / Amazon Redshift
Help define the AWS market segments, customer base, and industry verticals we target
Execute the strategic business development plan while working with key internal stakeholders (e.g. sales teams, product service teams, legal, support, etc.)
Identify specific prospects/partners to approach while communicating the specific value proposition for their business and use case
Fill the business development pipeline by engaging with prospects, partners, and key customers
Work closely with our customers to ensure they are successful using our web services, and that they have the technical resources required
Understand the technical requirements of our customers and work closely with the internal development teams to guide the direction of our product offerings for developers
Prepare and give business reviews to the senior management team regarding progress and roadblocks to closing new customers
Develop long-term strategic partnerships in support of our key markets
Handle a high volume of engagements and the fast pace of the cloud computing market
Basic Qualifications:
10+ years of business development, strategic partnerships, or program/product management experience
5-10 years selling and/or working on Data warehouse & Analytics services, preferably cloud hosted and managed
Strong verbal and written communications English skills are a must, as well as leadership skills
The right person will drive the go to market strategy for Amazon Redshift. This person will be technical and analytical, and possess significant business development, enterprise sales, or program/product management experience
Strong database technical knowledge with ability to go deep enough on technical aspects to differentiate between varied database approaches (relational, non-relational, in-memory, data warehousing, etc.)
Technical and/or business degree required
Prefer Qualifications:
Experience working with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Teradata, IBM Netezza or other data warehouse databases is required
MBA, Computer Science, and/or Engineering/Math background highly desired; working knowledge of software development practices and data center / infrastructure / networking technologies highly desired
Experience with account management (Enterprise, SMB and startup) and solution selling ability.

As an accomplished Business Development professional you will drive customer adoption of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Database services especially non-relational database services (i.e. Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon DocumentDB, and Amazon ElastiCache) across China. Customer applications that are built to operate at scale need database services with high throughput, massive storage scalability, and high availability. AWS offers a broad set of cloud-based database services that are powerful, flexible, and yet simple to use, enabling organizations to put their raw data to work quickly and easily.
Your responsibilities will include partnering with the account and channel teams to define key market segments to target, driving the necessary business and technical relationships with customers and partners to establish new business in those markets, and enabling the account team drive the day-to-day interactions with prospects in order to build long-term business opportunity. You’ll also work closely with the product/service teams to help them evolve the products/services and address issues, concerns, and requests from the field.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a key member of the Business Development team in helping to drive AWS marketing, sales, and technical strategies for the database business in China
Drive the China GTM plans for non-relational databases such as Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon DocumentDB, and Amazon ElastiCache
Define and size target market segments, customer base, and key partners including ISVs and system integrators
Create strategic business development plans for target markets and ensure these plans are in line with the AWS strategic direction
Develop industry-specific messaging and collateral materials that effectively communicate the AWS value proposition for enterprise cloud computing, including datacenter-to-cloud extension and migration
Execute the strategic business development plans while working closely with internal stakeholders (e.g. sales, marketing, & partner teams, solution architects, professional services and support teams, legal and contract teams, and the AWS service teams)
Identify specific prospects/partners to approach while communicating the specific value proposition for their business and use case
Fill the business development pipeline by engaging with prospects, partners, and key customers
Understand the unique business & technical requirements of our customers and work closely with the internal development teams to guide the direction of our product offerings for our largest and most complex customers
Understand and exploit the use of Salesforce.com and other internal Amazon systems for campaign tracking and pipeline management
Prepare and present business reviews to the senior management team regarding progress and roadblocks to closing new enterprise customers
Manage complex enterprise contract negotiations, in cooperation with AWS legal and professional services teams
Handle a high volume of engagements and the fast pace of the cloud computing market
Creative prospecting through campaigns, business partners, and other activities to identify new customers
Clearly articulate the AWS Database Platform propositions to customers, partners and internal staff.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
5+ years of business development, strategic partnerships, or program/product management experience in database especially in non-relational database products
5-10 years selling technology, preferably cloud, hosted and managed services in technology industry
In-depth understanding of non-relational database market and technologies
Solid negotiation skills, and business and financial acumen
Strong analytical skills, and demonstrated ability to turn detailed data analysis into useful strategic insight in order to drive customer adoption and make appropriate recommendations to the business
Experience with, and detailed knowledge of the support market and insights related to cloud computing and IT
Strong verbal and written communications English skills are a must
Demonstrated ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations is key
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working within the technology industry is highly desired.
Experience with cloud computing and or related fields (IT, software, etc.)
